Routines and handoffs
How to keep a daily pet-care log between caregivers
Use a daily care log to record who completed an established task, when it happened and which factual note needs a handoff. Tail Planner can track completion on one browser, but caregivers on different devices need an agreed way to exchange updates.

Choose the record everyone will actually use
Decide whether the working log is a paper sheet, one agreed browser or another communication method. Tail Planner does not sync between phones. Two people can each mark a routine done on different devices without seeing the other's entry. Tell every caregiver which record counts before the first visit, especially when tasks must not be duplicated.
Write tasks so completion has a clear meaning
Use concrete labels from your pet's established routine. 'Evening water-bowl check' is easier to hand over than 'take care of everything.' Keep the care window beside the task. Copy veterinary instructions without changing them. The log records that someone reported completing work; it does not prove a treatment was correctly administered or replace clinical instructions.
Separate task completion from observation notes
Use the routine controls for ordinary completion on the chosen browser. Use observation notes for dated facts that the next caregiver needs. An example note is 'the labeled food container is nearly empty.' A concern about your pet's health belongs in a timely conversation with the veterinarian. Do not delay seeking help while deciding which field a concerning change belongs in.
Add a handoff that another person can follow
An illustrative paper log might use date, pet, task, care window, caregiver initials and handoff note. Put one task on each row so a tick does not cover several actions. Agree on the meaning of a blank cell: not yet done, unknown or not applicable. A caregiver should not have to guess whether an empty row means everything is fine.
Review the log when the caregiver changes
Read the last relevant entries together. Resolve an ambiguous task or supply location before the next care window. Export the organizer if you need a durable copy, and preview a selected-pet printout before sharing it. A backup and a printout are snapshots. Explain the review date and the method for reporting later changes.
Quick checklist
- One working record agreed
- Tasks and care windows clearly labeled
- Completion separated from dated notes
- Blank-entry meaning explained
- Next caregiver has the current instructions
Common questions
Will Tail Planner tell the sitter a task is done?
No. It has no messages, push notifications or automatic sync. Arrange your own communication method.
When does a routine become available again?
Completion is recorded for the current local date in that browser. A routine is ready again the next day.
